We continue our evaluation of Citation services by looking at SuperPages.com. Our first citation on trial was YP.com. If you’re still wondering what the heck a citation is and why you should care, read this first.
SuperPages is part of Dex Media, which owns both SuperPages.com and DexKnows.com – two different directory listing sites. They also have a full suite of digital marketing packages, they want to be known as your outsourced Marketing department. When you look through their listings, they mention that information from these listings can come from a combination of Dex Media, Acxiom and/or Infogroup.
Citation Study – Day 1
We navigated to the site and did a lookup of our business – they ask for your business phone number, which we provided. We were not listed on their site so they suggested we build an entry from scratch. It was straightforward, and painless. Once we set everything up, then we were asked to create a login/password and validate. It’s smart that they get the information first, so you already feel invested and are more likely to complete a login/registration process.
The validation was seamless as well.
After this, things got a little confusing. The dashboard page was a little cluttered, and I was surprised I would have to pay $25/mo just to add a logo/slogan to my page. That’s usually free and standard on most sites. They also dove right into paid options with no real explanation of what the benefit were to each one. I declined all the paid options and finished the registration. There was no indication of how long I would have to wait to see our listing on their site.
I immediately went back to superpages.com and searched for our business. We still were not found, so the changes clearly aren’t immediate. How long will it take?
I went back to superpages.com, and our business entry was there. Everything looked good. For some reason, Bronx is my default location in my browser, but even when I search for our business, it finds it. They even have a “Contact the business” capability. We tried this option, and I got an email immediately with the users contact info – pretty slick! However, adding our business to SuperPages did not result in the business showing up in DexKnows, so clearly these two directories are not fully in sync.
Based on the ease of use, simple validation, and powerful search capability, we’d rate this site a solid PASS. The upsell pages should be made much clearer (since I’ll assume they truly do want to upsell!) and given that they own multiple directories, it would be nice if adding our business to SuperPages resulted in the business also showing up in DexKnows immediately as well.
